Outcome Summary:

In a pilot study (1), Stop My Smoking was tested in N=164 adults aged 18 to 25 against an active attentional control consisting of a series of messages focussed on sleep and physical activity. At four weeks, the intervention group had significantly higher rates of abstinence than controls, with 39% of those in the treatment group having smoked less than five cigarettes (verified by a phone call with a significant other) in the last four weeks, compared to 21% of controls. 7 day point prevalence abstinence at four weeks was also significantly higher than controls. At three months the difference between intervention and control groups was no longer significant, though more participants in the treatment group reported smoking less than five cigarettes since their quit date (40%) than controls (30%). This study provides some evidence that Stop My Smoking can be effective in improving the outcome of quit attempts.
