Gezondlevencheck (Netherlands)

Description:

Gezondlevencheck (Healthy Life Check) from the Dutch Heart Foundation is a computer-tailored lifestyle intervention targeting three primary contributors to cardiovascular disease: saturated fat intake, physical activity, and smoking. Upon registering, you complete a brief assessment of your smoking status, perceived fat intake, and perceived physical activity level. This information is used to guide you to the module that best fits your needs, though you can start with any of the three modules that you wish. Tailored personal and normative behavioural feedback is provided, which is the main strategy used by the site to improve awareness. Feedback is presented in text and graphics and can be printed out. After completing one module, you can proceed to another if desired, and within each module you are referred to other modules where appropriate. You can visit the site multiple times if desired and view any of the modules in any order.

Outcome Summary:

One randomised controlled trial (RCT) designed to test the short-term efficacy of the Gezondlevencheck (Healthy Life Check) intervention has been conducted. Results of this RCT found that compared a wait-list control, the intervention significantly reduced self-reported saturated fat intake and increased self-reported level of physical activity, but did not significantly reduce self-reported smoking status. This RCT provides some evidence that the intervention is effective in reducing saturated fat intake and increasing physical activity in the short-term, but may not be effective at reducing smoking.
