Breast Cancer Knowledge Online (BCKOnline) is an online portal to breast cancer information. The portal is the combined work of women with breast cancer and a team of Monash University researchers. Resources available through the portal fall into three broad categories:
• Scientific evidence-based materials (medical and research articles)
• Personal views of consumers, patients and health professionals
• Supportive materials on accessing useful facilities, organisations, support/advocacy groups, etc.
You can search for information through the portal in three different ways:
• "Personalised Search" allows you to tailor information to your specific needs
• "Browse Breast Cancer topics" allows you to select and browse broad topics of information
• "Simple Search" allows you to enter a single search word or a phrase
BCKOnline does not rate information provided through the portal, but does provide a brief quality report for each item. This contains information on who created and published the information; whether it is current; whether it contains references, and if the subject matter is of a controversial nature where medical opinion may differ; and information on the clinical evidence upon which the item is based.
