eScreen

Description:

eScreen is a brief, in-depth self-screening tool for alcohol and drug use. The tool tests for alcohol and drug habits and tracks habits over time. Once an account is created and logged in, 10 questions are presented addressing alcohol consumption habits, and 11 questions addressing drug consumption habits. Each set of questions takes approximately 5-7 minutes to complete. If the results suggest a risk for developing alcohol or drug related problems, a more in-depth questionnaire is used to further interrogate alcohol and drug use. eScreen provides personalised information about users perceptions about alcohol or drug use, and ways in which alcohol or drugs could negatively impact quality of life. Information is provided about how to change alcohol or drug habits and achieve better physical and mental health. eScreen also includes an electronic diary for long-term self-monitoring.

Outcome Summary:

A three-arm RCT (1) was carried out with N=633 testing two interventions against a no-treatment control group. One intervention was brief screening and feedback (eScreen.se) and the other was an extended self-help online CBT intervention (Alkoholhjalpen.se). At 3 month follow up, significant reductions in levels of alcohol consumption and alcohol related problems were seen for all three groups (including controls) with no significant differences observed between groups.
